Sewing Chair: Regular office chairs are not the best option for sewing. I have a chair just like this one and I like it because the arms fold up out of the way when I’m sewing. When I’m doing design work on my computer, I can fold them down like regular office chairs.

Embroidery and Sewing Needles: Achieve precise and flawless stitching with high-quality embroidery and sewing needles specifically designed for the Janome Memory Craft 9850. These durable and precise needles are essential for optimal sewing results. Embroidery needles are a must because they are specially designed to protect the thread during the intense needle movement. These are my go-to needles and I have had zero problems (because of the needle).

Clear Grid Rulers and Cutting Mat: Ensure accuracy in your fabric measurements and cuts with clear grid rulers and a self-healing cutting mat. These tools provide the perfect foundation for precise sewing and embroidery, guaranteeing professional-looking results. I use baby wipes to clean my mat.
If you only have one rules, the 6.5″ x 24″ will be the most versatile. I also have a set of square Omnigrid that are very handy for quilting and bag making.
Steam Iron: A good hot steam iron is essential for sewing. This is the one I am going to treat myself to on Prime Day. It is 1700 watts and has a point to help with pressing hems and seams. There are lots of fancy irons on the market with pop up feet and large reservoirs, but I think this is a sensible option. I also enjoy having a small mini iron near my machine for for in the hoop projects so I can fuse applique right in the hoop. I use this little travel iron for that.

Sewing Clips: I hate pins! I also poke myself everytime I use pins. I have ordered a lot of sewing clips that broke after a couple uses. It is worth it to spend a little more on these durable clips. I have learned my lesson about buying cheap clips.
Sewing Magnets: I use these often for In the hoop projects or when I’m dealing with very thick material where I’m likely to lose a pin.
Pressing Mat: This was my Prime Day buy last year. Although the brand I bought is no longer available it was the same size. It is portable and pin-able. The dense and natural properties of wool allow the pressing mat to retain heat, creating a reliable and consistent surface for ensuring precise and crisp results. Scissors: I haven’t mentioned scissors yet. But nothing is more painful then terrible scissors. I have several types to make the perfect tool for the job.
- Dressmaker shears for fabric pattern cutting. This are your investment scissors that can be sharpened and last forever.
- Small scissors for cutting button holes or small spaces. The thin and pointed blades are great for precise cuts in small spaces. Cheaper versions are too chunky for precise cuts.
- Snips for cutting threads.
- Pinking shears for preventing fray on woven fabrics
- Applique scissors for In the hoop and embroidery

Organization Cart: When it comes to sewing it is amazing how many little tiny things there are. I have two of these carts in my sewing room and I probably need another. I have a cricut machine and I like that I can put it on the top and roll around. I have one for my sewing notions and I like that I can move it to where I’m sewing or to my cutting table. I use it for all my cutting and measuring tools, zippers, snaps and bag hardware.

Task Lighting: Sewing can be hard on the eyes, especially if you don’t have good lighting. I find I don’t need to light up the whole room but I do need good light when I cut and at the sewing machine. I’m getting to be a lady of a certain age and presbyopia has arrived. The task lighting with a magnifying glass is perfect for unpicking seams. I also like lights that look like daylight when I am trying to match colors. I have a floor lamp to save clutter on my sewing table. A clamp on version with adjustable arm would work well too.
