Items Included With My Machine Purchased From Costco

What items are included with the Janome MC 9850 purchased from Costco?

I was recently asked to provide some feedback about what accessories were included when I purchased my Janome MC 9850 from Costco online.   I have no affiliation with Costco and I have no idea if your purchase will include the exact same items.  Just saying.

It appears to be the same price on Amazon and as an affiliate I will earn a commission of about $57.  I haven’t earned any yet, but why not try, right?

First thing - Check the contents

The machine does include a hole on the front for what I presume to be for a knee lift or a knee peddle.

It is also considered a high shank machine meaning the distance from the bottom of the pressure foot to the top of the screw is over an inch.  1/14″ to be precise.

There was an instruction book included but it is not very thorough, in my opinion.

There was no cover included.

Stitch Plate

There is much controversy about the stitch plate included and whether it is a straight stitch plate or not.  Here is a picture of the one my machine came with.  There was only one stitch plate included.

Mine has been through a lot this year.   Notice the scratches.

I have a video about the straight stitch plate.

Feet

There are eleven  9mm feet included with the machine.

  • Zigzag foot A
  • Overedge foot M
  • Satin stitch foot F
  • Blind hemming foot G –  I have used this to stitch in the ditch, however, there is a special foot for that that is not included.  https://www.janome.com/accessories/sewing-machine-feet/ditch-quilting-foot/
  • Zipper foot E
  • Automatic button hole foot R
  • Rolled hem foot D
  • Darning foot PH-H
  • Button sewing foot T
  • 1/4″ seam foot O
  • Embroidery foot P

If you need a walking foot (also called an even feed foot), you will need to purchase that separately.  Here is the one like I purchased.

Janome Machine Embroidery Accessories

  • Embroidery unit
  • RE20a Hoop 6.7″ x 7.9″ with template
  • SQ14a Hoop 5.5″ x 5.5″ with template
  • Two bobbin holder cases, one with Yellow Dot for embroidery
  • Template CD – This does not contain embroidery design files, it contains printable templates for the built in designs for embroidery placement.  If you do not have a CD drive, you are not missing much.  In my opinion.

other Useful Accessories You May Consider Purchasing

I have purchased a few accessories to try out and here are the ones I recommend.

The Janome P embroidery foot is not very sturdy, so I have been using this mettle one.

For embroidering small designs or tubular items like cuffs, this little hoop is perfect.

When you receive your sewing machine

It is an exciting time when your sewing machine finally arrives.  I recommend doing an inventory of all the items in the package.  This serves to ensure nothing is missing and also gives you a chance to get familiar with the accessories.

I lay all the parts out and then check them off the inventory list on page 3 of the manual.
