Free Arm Embroidery Hoop FA10

I just received my new free arm embroidery hoop and for my Janome 9850 sewing machine.

When people think embroidery hoops they tend to think the larger the better.  However, I have wanted to embroider items that are too small to work with in the SQ14a or the RE20a hoops.  This little hoop seemed tried it out on a ready made bag and also a shirt sleeve.

About the Hoop

The Janome Part Number for this accessory is : 859824004

The dimensions are 100mm x 40mm to accommodate tight areas like the cuff of a sleeve or pants legs of ready-made garments.

My experience

I have been anxious to embellish a very plain fanny pack.  In retrospect I wish I had not started with this item.  The heavy zipper prevented hooping properly, so I had to float the bag and hold down the edges.  This was not for the faint of heart.

I used built in designs “Floral Alphabet” for the initial.  Which came out straight and centered.

When I decided to add another design to the top I’m afraid the floating job was not so great.

My next test was to use the thing like it was intended to be used.  (go figure).

I applied a cuff of a blouse to the hoop with stabilizer and stitched out the floral alphabet again.

I worked like a charm.

I highly recommend it and can’t wait to embellish the cuff of some jeans.

  1. Hello,
I have enjoyed your beginner videos and have subscribed. Could you help me?
I understand you purchased your Janine 9850 from Costco. I am wondering what the included accessories are? It’s description thru Costco doesn’t get specific. Could you tell me?
    1. A Hole on lower front of machine to attach a knee peddle?
    2. How many feet are included? Are they 9mm? Does machine include a dual foot for top and bottom even feeding?
    3. Does it come with 2 needle plates or just one?
    4. Include attachable table for large pieces of fabric?
    5. Machine bag/cover?
Anything not supplied, that you’d recommend buying additionally?
Your reply would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,
    J
